Following a series of tough round robin matches involving
seven teams, the Tigers were still feeling the after effects of a 33-6
demolition by the Falcons earlier in the day.
And it looked as if the Falcons were set to inflict a
double whammy on the Tigers with the Lanarkshire outfit wee 19-13 ahead
at the break.
The Tigers then bounced back when Shand tied the scoring
early in the second half and the Glasgow side soon had the Falcons under
real pressure for the first time, when a two point safety put them in
front for the first time.
The Falcons then stepped up a gear when Graeme Macmillan
put them back in front.
With the Tigers looking to win the last Scottish tournament
of the junior kitted season on home soil, they managed to dig into their
reserves with Shand getting the winning score along with a two point conversion
from Andrew Burns inside the final 30 seconds.
Like last season, the junior league format was once again
a series of tournaments around the country, only this time, there was
a Southern and Northern Conference.
With one more tournament remaining before the championship
final in Solihull later this year, Cambuslang Rugby Club, the host of
the Glasgow Tiger Football organisation was to play host to the league’s
penultimate event of the regular season.
But
like the tournament in Inverclyde last year, the concept of this being
a British league was called into question once again, with Scottish teams
dominating the list of the bold contenders. Only one team, the Yorkshire
Rams, bothered to make the trip up north.
Unfortunately for them, the visit was short lived with
three of their players set for a visit to the hospital to fix some broken
bones before their trip back down south.
